Unions to go ahead with Sept. 2 strike

The simmering dispute between trade unions and the government over labour law amendments is showing no signs of being resolved with the former deciding to conduct a nation-wide strike on 2nd September
Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, a major union with links to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, pulled out from the strike at the last minute on Friday, while nine other unions representing 30 million workers decided to go ahead with it. On August 26, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had met the union leaders, urging them to call off the strike with an assurance that a fair discussion would be held to find a solution.
